JOSA, a Jordanian organisation dedicated to promote and develop open-source technology for social good, seeks a highly motivated and mission-driven individual to join our team as a Lead Data Scientist.

JOSA is looking for a Lead Data Scientist to join our newly formed Data Science team. Our Data Science team, in coordination with the rest of JOSA, will leverage Artificial Intelligence to projects of a socially conscious nature that aligns with JOSA’s values. What You’ll Do:

• You'll lead a diverse and talented group of Data Scientists and Engineers, fostering collaboration and innovation.
• Pre-train, fine-tune, and serve Large Language Models (LLMs) and LLM-based pipelines, contributing to the development of open-source AI systems.
• Experiment with the latest machine learning models and integrate them seamlessly with JOSA's ongoing projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Passionate about JOSA's values and mission.
• Master’s degree in Machine Learning, Data Science, or an equivalent work experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in research and/or development of Machine learning models.
• A proven record in delivering software products.
• Proficient theoretical Knowledge in Machine learning and Natural Language Processing, preferably, with previous exposure to Large Language Models and Transformers models like BERT.
• Excellent communication in Arabic and English and interpersonal skills.

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Fine-tune and pre-train large language models for classificatory and generative AI applications.
• Apply, discover, and research techniques to optimise existing LLM training and serving, as well as improving the model quality.
• Develop and deploy the LLMs for classification tasks.
• Develop ETL processes to convert raw data into an acceptable format to train machine learning models.
• Continuously research and stay up-to-date with recent advancements in Natural language processing and large language models, applying novel techniques and methodologies to improve JOSA’s and open-source models.
• Log and track model metrics and outcomes on a suitable open-source platform.
• Work effectively with program and technology teams to implement the machine learning model that accomplishes both JOSA’s objectives and the project’s requirements.
• Share your discoveries, learnings and results with other peers, partners and the wider open-source community.
