Communication Officer, Localization

Job Description

JOSA, a Jordanian organization dedicated to open-source technology for social good, seeks a tech-savvy language-geek to join our team as a Localization Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Passionate about JOSA's values and mission.
• Bachelor's degree in Linguistics, Translation, Communications or a related field.
• Proven ability to translate complex technical texts between Arabic and English, with a deep understanding of cultural contexts for effective localization.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both Arabic and English, knowledge of other languages is a plus.
   

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead localization initiatives at JOSA, collaborate with open source communities and local volunteers to promote the localization of open content and open source software.
• Translate texts, terminologies, and materials between English and Arabic. Ensure translations are culturally appropriate and sensitive.
• Develop lexicons in collaboration with JOSA’s partners and other experts. Initiate and explain lexical innovations in the technology field when necessary.
• Localize interfaces of open source software. Oversee and support localization efforts by community members.
• Work with the tech team to draft, edit, and publish technical guides, blog posts, and other materials.
