US Air Force Buys 2200 PS3s to be Used with Linux

United States Air Force will buy new 2200 Sony PlayStation3 to be used in its supercomputing cluster.

Last year, the Air Force purchased more than 300 PS3s for testing purposes of the Cell Broadband Engine. The systems are now located at Air Force Research Laboratory's information directorate in Rome, N.Y. and they work with an in-house developed Linux-based OS.

The highly anticipated Linux-based Nokia N900 is now on sale in the United States.

18-Button Mouse for OpenOffice.org

In partnership with the OpenOffice.org community, WarMouse announced the release of the OpenOfficeMouse, the first multi-button application mouse designed for the world's leading open-source office productivity suite. With a design featuring 18 buttons, an analog joystick, and support for as many as 52 key commands, the OpenOfficeMouse is intended to provide a faster and more efficient user interface for OpenOffice.org applications such as Writer and Calc than the conventional icons, pull-down menus, and hotkeys presently permit.

 

Sixthsense to Go Open Source

Pranav Mistry, the genius behind SixthSense, said that the software related to his project will be provided open-source starting next months.

Sixthsense is a wearable device that allows interaction between human gestures and data elaboration and display, the device consists of a small camera and projector that is used to show information onto surfaces.

 

Microsoft and the European Union Reach Antitrust Accord

European Antitrust commission said last Wednesday that an agreement has been reached with Microsoft to conclude the antistrust battle that lasted more than 10 years.
A previous proposal by Microsoft was dismissed by the commision as it is was considered as insufficient.
In a press conference, competition commissioner Neelie Kroes said that he that the last proposal presented by Microsoft will be the answer.
