Ubuntu Might Replace Firefox with Google Chrome

Ubuntu, the most popular Linux distribution, is considering dropping its current default browser Firefox for Google Chrome. Different industry sources are reporting that "Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.10 might not feature Firefox as the browser of choice, and will instead offer Google's Chrome as the default Internet browser".

New Logo for Ubuntu

A new logo and theme have been selected for Canonical's Linux distribution, Ubuntu, six years after it was first launched.

The new designs are based on feedback from the community and the review conducted by a small team lead by Mark Shuttleworth in 2009. Representatives of Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Edubuntu and Xubuntu worked with the Canonical design team in London and produced this work:

Zoho Invites Open Source Projects to Use Zoho Discussions for Free

Fastest, More Compatible Version of OpenOffice is Out

OpenOffice.org has announced its latest version, OpenOffice.org 3.2, with major improvements in speed, performance, functionality and compatibility with other document formats.

Better Performance can be found in OpenOffice.org 3.2 Calc and Writer, which have both reduced 'cold start' time by 46% since version 3.0 was released just over a year ago.

Microsoft released a security advisory to acknowledge a flaw that affects every release of the Windows NT kernel, from Windows NT 3.1 up to and including Windows 7.

 

Firefox 3.6 Available Today

Mozilla announced that the new version of its web browser, Firefox 3.6, will be available for download at www.firefox.com on Thursday, January 21st at 9:30am PST.

The new version has several fixes to improve performance, stability and security. Changes were also made to how other software integrate with Firefox in order to prevent crashes.

Firefox 3.6 also has built-in support for Personas (a one-click way to easily change the look and theme of the browser) as well as an alert to keep plugins updated to keep them safe.

 

Firefox 3.5 is the World's Most Popular Browser

Firefox 3.5 has overtaken Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 as the most used browser version on the world wide web according to last graphs of StatCounter Global Stats.

StatCounter Global Stats refers to browsers versions usage in the week between 14 and 20 December, 2009. According to the statistics, 21.93% of users were running Firefox 3.5, while Internet Explorer 7 was used by 21.2% of the users and the third was IE8 with 20.33%. The statistics come from nearly 3 million websites around the world.
