Objectives and Strategies
MiSSION STATEMENT
To support and distribute free software, to guarantee that computer applications are freely distributed, in the way that their source code is available to everyone without charge, and everybody is allowed to change, alter, republish, redistribute and modify them.
Goals
Spread the open source philosophy and culture, by informing the students about the scientific research in the field of open source applications.
Publish open source information systems, whose code can be easily modified and altered, and to guarantee the availability of free algorithms.
Reduce the digital divide between students, and support the access to different information technology applications.
Provide the required skills and training to use telecommunication media, digital technologies and computer networks, especially the Internet.
Encourage different kinds of ethical economy, such as free licences (e.g. GNU GPL, GNU LGPL, GNU FDL, public licenses) and free software.
STRATEGIES
Organize and support cultural and artistic events whose goal is to publish open source software , and to grant the needed support for exchanging experience and knowledge in this field.
Present lectures and educational sessions to spread the free sotware / open source culture and to defeat computer illiteracy, especially those regarding open source programs, networks and systems.
Publish and distribute open source cultural and advertising materials, such as publications, papers and electronic disks; including CDs and other storage media.
Hold conferences and meetings about free software / open source, which include special sessions to distribute information and researches related to open source development, and festivals to install these applications on personal computers.
Develop scientific studies and researches which support free software in the computer science field, and to offer the material and manual support.
Build web sites to support and sustain the open source community, exploit other electronic tools like electronic mail, forums and social networks to encourage the use of open source software.
