Wordpress 3.3 Released. What's New?

A new version of the most popular open source CMS, Wordpress 3.3, has been released under the codename "Sonny", after the late jazz saxophonist Sonny Stitt.

"WordPress has had over 65 million downloads since version 3.0 was released, and in this third major iteration we’ve added significant polish around the new user experience, navigation, uploading, and imports", the Wordpress blog reported.

What's new?

The major new feature is the adoption of Plupload, an open source upload handler with drag-and-drop functionality that uses HTML5, for browsers without HTML5 support, it implements fallback methods which include Flash.

The dashboard has a new design with a new toolbar in the dashboard that combines the Admin Bar and admin header, more responsive design for some screens, including iPad/tablet support and Flyout menus, providing single-click access to any screen.

The new version of Wordpress has a Tumblr importer tool as well.

For the developers, "Sonny" will offer new editor APIs and newer jQuery and jQuery UI versions.
