Lecture about Tor - Anonymity on the Net in PSUT
The Jordan Open Source Association organized a lecture about anonymity of Internet users in Princess Sumaya University for Technology in collaboration with IEEE-PSUT.
The lecture was presented by Jacob Appelbaum from Tor project, an open source project that aims to increase anonymity and privacy of Internet users and decrease the possibility of being discovered. This system allows site owners, bloggers and cyber-dissidents to be active on the web without being known by using a complex network of servers that makes the return to the original person or activity impossible.

The US Navy is considered the first developer and user of this project. Tor is not only for military use, it is distributed worldwide and it is used in different nations by activists and bloggers, in addition to companies which want to keep their activities anonymous. Appelbaum presented several practical examples on how to use the project , which was also presented in a Middle-East tour in the last Arab Bloggers Conference in Beirut and at Al Jazeera Satellite Channel in Doha, Qatar.
At the end of the lecture, Appelbaum -a security network advisor who currently resides in San Francisco, showed the idea behind "Cold Boot Attacks", an attacks that allows hackers to stela personal information of a turned off PC or phone.
The meeting was opened by an introduction about Jordan Open Source Association of Mahmoud Aldwairi, and an introductory speech about IEEE and its future plans presented by Bassam Ali.
